The Writing Room
The Writing Room is a creative space in Rosenborghus, an old schoolhouse in heart of Copenhagen, hosting intensive writing courses with British novelist Liz Jensen and American playwright and screenwriter, Rhea Leman.
WRITING FOR STAGE, SCREEN AND TELEVISION
WITH RHEA LEMAN
A 6-week evening course (6-8.30 pm) from September 25 - November 6 with holiday break Oct 16. Fee: 3500 kroner
With the help of the writer’s toolbox, you will discover a multitude of storyline possibilities that will bring you closer to the story you really want to tell. Each session will include script writing exercises, workshopping, and script analysis. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, your knowledge will widen as your ideas transform from thoughts and impressions to actual script. At the end of the course, you will have completed a short play, film or television draft. This course will be taught in English but you are welcome to write in Danish. Individual feedback can be scheduled before the weekly sessions.
RHEA LEMAN’S teaching experience spans over decades and countries. From China, South America, to the U.S.A. and Europe, Leman takes her students very seriously while striving to create a fun and safe environment where everyone can participate. An awardwinning playwright and director, born and raised in New York City, Leman moved to Denmark in 1981 where she has been working as an independent playwright, screenwriter as well as theater, radio, and TV director. Her TV and radio series include Heartbeats, Toast, and Love Coach. She has received nominations and awards for her plays and opera, Hitler On The Roof, Gorilla and the libretto for The Rosenbergs.

WITH LIZ JENSEN
A 6-week Thursday evening course (6-8.30 pm), September 26 – November 7 with holiday break Oct 17. Fee: 3500 kroner.
Part masterclass, part workshop, Liz’s dynamic, hands-on class consists of flash fiction exercises, brainstorming, workshopping and discussion. Though the emphasis will be on fiction, it will also cover elements of memoir, auto- fiction and narrative non- fiction. The aim is to help you generate fresh material while digging deeper into character development, story structure, setting, scene-building, dialogue, and the editing process. Teaching will be in English, but you are welcome to write in Danish.
LIZ JENSEN is an experienced teacher of creative writing and the author of eight novels, including the best-selling The Rapture, the Hollywood-adapted The Ninth Life of Louis Drax, and most recently, The Uninvited. Her work has been translated into over 20 languages, including Danish. As well as being a regular reviewer for The Guardian and the BBC, Liz spent ten years as Writer in Residence at Kingston University in London, and teaches for the Arvon Foundation in the UK.
In Copenhagen she set up the Creative Writing Programme at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, and the Get Writing! Course at Books and Company in Hellerup, before co-founding The Writers’ Room with Rhea Leman.
